The dual degree of an undergraduate degree and postgraduate teaching degree gives you enormous flexibility when it comes to your career. You can apply for roles as a secondary school teacher with government and non-government schools in Australia and most other countries. You can also pursue career interests in the field of your undergraduate degree, like education policy, curriculum development and education administration or even generalist positions, since many of the skills from your teaching degree teamwork and leadership, communication and organization are highly valued by employers. Finally, to help you juggle your busy work, career and personal life, Western also offers flexible study options, like accelerated study mode.

Structure

160 credit points. Students can exit with the Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Secondary) on completion of 40 credit points. of study selected from the Master of Teaching (Secondary) units. The Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Secondary) would be an exit point on completion of 80 credit points. of study (excluding Professional Practice units) selected from the Master of Teaching (Secondary) units.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in any of the following disciplines (English, Mathematics, Studies of Society, Geography, Humanities, Business, Law, Health Sciences, Music, Performing Arts, Languages, Aboriginal Studies). The completed subjects in the undergraduate degree must match with the secondary subject content requirements of the NSW Education Standards Authority for the subject(s) the applicant is intending to teach.
