Why choose TAFE South Australia English Learning Centre?
General English is designed for international students and holders of other temporary visas who wish to improve their English.
General English develops students' general English skills with a focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills from elementary to advanced level; developing vocabulary; improving grammar; and building communication skills.
Students are assessed on arrival and placed into the appropriate level class from elementary to advanced. Actual course duration and cost will depend on their English level, goals and pathway.
English for Academic Purposes 10/20
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is designed for students with good English language skills (upper intermediate level) who need to improve their skills for study at TAFE SA or university.
English for Academic Purposes focuses on developing high-level academic skills in writing, listening and note taking, reading and comprehension, research, academic language for oral presentations and seminars, study skills and group work. Students will also develop their grammar skills, topic pronunciation and computer literacy, and build academic vocabulary for future study.
Students can choose from a 10 or 20-week course dependent on their English level at entry and the English level that they want to achieve.
Advanced IELTS Preparation
Advanced IELTS Preparation is designed for students with good English language skills (upper intermediate level) who need to improve their skills for study at TAFE SA or university, or to improve their IELTS score.
The course focuses on developing the English language skills needed to prepare for entry into TAFE SA courses with a higher English language requirement, such as nursing, dental technology and electronic engineering, as well as university study, professional registration and migration. There is also a focus on building high-level English skills in writing, listening and note taking, reading, comprehension, and language for oral presentations and seminars; developing grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and computer literacy in English; and IELTS test practice.
English for Academic Purposes (Advanced)
English for Academic Purposes (Advanced) is designed for students who need to develop their English language skills for university study at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Students develop the English language skills needed for further education, including lecture note taking, presentation and group discussion skills, and planning essays and assignments. Students are introduced to and become familiar with the vocabulary specific to their chosen study field.
The course will expose students to a university-style learning environment, which includes research tasks, group presentations, tutorials and seminars. Students attend university lectures, meet academic and university staff and go on familiarisation tours of a university campus.
The course is offered over 10 or 20 weeks depending on the student's English level at entry and the English level they need to achieve.
University entry and pathway programs
