This program provides students with an ability to teach in all learning areas of the curriculum, together with Religious Education (if desired); the strong integration of theory and practice; coursework that is contemporary; professional reflection on practice; exposure to emergent learning technologies; attainment of all employer and government requirements; and (if necessary) formal registration demands. It also provides accreditation to teach Religious Education in a Catholic school or requirements to teach in a Catholic school (if this option is elected).


Students must complete 40 courses of study as well as 30-32 weeks of practicum.

Standard entry requirements

  • NSW - Applicants are able to be considered for a place in a teaching degree if they meet the requirements in either A) or B) below. A) School leavers who have three Band 5s in the HSC, one of which must be English (or equivalent for IB). Please note ESL English will not count toward the required Band 5 English criteria. B) School Leavers: ATAR of 70 (Indicative only). Must have been obtained within the last five years
  • Or IB of 25+ (Indicative only). Must have been obtained within the last five years. Post School Leaver/Mature Age Applicants: Other University Studies - Notre Dame will consider applicants who have successfully completed a minimum four units within a Bachelor's Degree from another University
  • Or Successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Diploma level qualification or higher in a relevant area from a recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
  • Or Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) - This option is only available for applicants who are over 20 years of age as at 1 March in the year of admission. A score of 150 for both the Multiple Choice component and the Written English component is required. STAT results are valid for five years
  • Or Successful completion of the Notre Dame Tertiary Pathway Program. Applicants using one of the admission requirements listed in B) above will be considered for a place in a teaching degree, however progression into year two of the degree is dependent on the successful completion of eight courses (units) in the first year of the degree.

Further information

All teacher education students in WA and NSW are required to sit the national Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) and demonstrate the required minimum level of personal literacy and numeracy prior to their final professional experience. The test is administered externally by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and students will be required to register with ACER and pay for the test.
