Two new Australian universities on the horizon
There’s been some exciting developments in the Australian higher education sector, with announcements that two new universities will be opening their doors in the coming years.
These universities are:
- the MCD University of Divinity — Melbourne
- Torrens University — Adelaide
The MCD University of Divinity will be established in Melbourne as the first specialised university in Australia. The University of Divinity will begin offering courses in ministry and theology from January 2012.
Torrens University in Adelaide is also set to become Australia’s third private university, having now secured both university status and title. In 2013, Torrens plans to start enrolling their first 200 students in the fields of design, management and education.
The university is being set up by multinational education provider Laureate Education Asia.
The managing director, Michael Mann, said “We’re working closely with the state and federal governments to achieve all the necessary approvals with the aim of starting to teach in 2013 and we’ve been given really good access and cooperation by both governments”.
