The Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services), Bachelor of Psychological Science double degree provides a balance of courses in psychology and human services which enables graduates to enter the workforce with a strong understanding of psychology and the human services sector. Through a range of theoretical and practical learning students gain a sound understanding of the political, behavioural and social sciences, and are equipped with the skills needed to work in a diverse range of fields.

Standard entry requirements

  • Qualify for South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) with competitive ATAR
  • Or complete secondary education equivalent to SACE
  • Complete International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Complete or partially complete higher education program
  • Complete four Open Universities Australia courses at undergraduate level or above
  • Complete a Certificate IV level or above
  • Qualify for special entry
  • Complete a Foundation Studies program
  • And meet any pre-requisite and academic requirements. International students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained the required standards prior to admission.

Recognition

Graduates will be eligible for full membership of the Australian Community Workers Association. Graduates will also have completed an APAC accredited undergraduate sequence which will allow them to go on to further study in psychology to satisfy the requirements for registration as a psychologist and eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society.

Study pathways

Students can further improve their employment prospects by continuing studies with a one-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree or a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) degree.

Further information

All students studying this degree will be required to complete criminal history screening through the Department of Communities and Social Inclusion prior to being accepted for work placements. Students must also hold a current Child Safe Environments Certificate. Some placements may require a current driver's licence and a recognised First Aid Certificate.
