This course is designed for professionals to study in depth a range of areas related to education. Participants may choose from a range of units from different areas or specialise in the area of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (also known as Teaching English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)) . Some units are related to the school curriculum. However, these units are not intended for the purposes of teacher preparation in any particular method. Structure
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 24 credit points at 400 or 500-level with not less than 18 credit points at 400-level and not more than 6 credit points at 500-level.

Standard entry requirements
- A candidate shall:(a) hold a three-year or four-year pre-service teaching qualification of a recognised University or tertiary institution (AQF Level 7)
- Or(b) hold an (AQF Level 7) Bachelor degree and a one or two year pre-service teaching qualification (AQF level 7, 8, 9) of a recognised University or tertiary institution
- Or(c) hold a bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) in a relevant discipline* and have at least one year full-time (or equivalent) work experience** (TESOL specialisation only)

Recognition
The Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) has endorsed the program with the Careers and Transition Education specialisation as meeting the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners. This specialisation is recognised and endorsed by the NSW Department of Education as an approved post-graduate program designed to prepare teachers for employment as a careers advisor.
Study pathways
Students may be eligible for credit (advanced standing) for previously completed studies. The Graduate Certificate in Education Studies articulates with the Master of Education.
