Structure

In your first year, you will complete four business foundation subjects to give you the foundation that you need to succeed in your chosen Business career path.After that, the direction you take is in your hands as you choose which major or majors (up to two) you want to undertake, or no majors at all. You can choose one or more minors, or just focus on the individual subjects and electives that interest you most.In your final year, all students will undertake the compulsory Capstone Experience subject.

Standard entry requirements

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12. Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL, or equivalent studies.

Recognition

The degree is accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Graduates are entitled to associate membership of all the professional accounting bodies: CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants, provided auditing and taxation subjects are passed. Students must then undertake the chosen professional body's qualification program and gain 3 years' relevant practical experience to gain full membership.

Study pathways

Graduates of the Advanced Diploma of Accounting and the Associate Degree in Business may be eligible to apply for exemptions of up to 1.5 -2 years.

Further information

The Accountancy program provides a business qualification which enables graduates to advance in a variety of careers. About one-third of graduates gain employment in public accounting practices, supporting staff teams in areas such as auditing, taxation, management consulting, business services and receivership. Others are recruited into commercial and government organisations in treasury, internal audit, strategic business planning, financial reporting and management accounting roles.
