This program is ideal for clinicians interested in pursuing a management or executive career in health policy or health care. The Master of Health Management develops students' knowledge across the broad scope of health. This course prepares graduates to provide leadership in a range of health services and programs. Students may choose to complete a specialisation in emergency and disaster management, health law, health policy and planning, quality and patient safety, or a cross-specialisation. Note, the specialisation is not part of the award title and does not appear on the graduation parchment.

  • The Majors available to internal students are: Emergency and Disaster Management, Quality and Patient Safety, Health Law, Health Policy and Planning. Alternatively, students may choose a cross-specialisation of four units from across the Majors. Students who choose to undertake a dissertation will not have room to complete a 48 credit point Major. The Emergency and Disaster Management major and cross-specialisation are also available to online students.

Standard entry requirements

  • 2.0 year program - You must have a recognised bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in any discipline. 1.5 year program - You must have one of the following: A recognised bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in health, business or law
  • Or A recognised bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in any other discipline plus at least 3 years full-time (or equivalent) professional experience working in health middle management (or higher). 1 year program - You must have completed QUT's Graduate Diploma in Health Management within the last 7 years. 0.5 year programYou must have completed QUT's Graduate Diploma in Health Management within the last 7 years plus one of the following: a recognised bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in health, business or law
  • Or a recognised bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in any other discipline plus at least 3 years full-time (or equivalent) professional experience working in health middle management (or higher).

Study pathways

The Graduate Diploma in Health Management fully articulates into the Master of Health Management. Students who complete 4 units in the Master of Health Management will be able to exit with a graduate certificate. Students who complete a minimum of 8 units including the 6 core units may exit with a graduate diploma.
