Structure

Complete a total of at least five years of full-time study or its part time equivalent. Complete in sequence the compulsory Law subjects and Global Studies subjects. Complete a total of 600 credit points (360 credit points in Law and 240 credit points in Global Studies subjects). Complete a total of 24 subjects in Law (18 compulsory subjects and six electives). Complete a total of 16 subjects in Global Studies including at least 90 credit points at third-year level comprising: Core subjects (30 credit points at first year, 15 credit points at second year, and 15 credit points at third year) and 60 HUSS elective credit points.

Standard entry requirements

Secondary education. VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL.

Recognition

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Global Studies course includes the subjects required by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board to meet the academic requirements for admission to the legal profession in Victoria as an Australian lawyer. Admission to the legal profession by the Supreme Court of Victoria also requires the completion of practical legal training via either a 12-month period of supervised legal training or completion of an approved practical legal training course (for example, at the Leo Cussen Institute or The College of Law). Candidates for admission to practice must also satisfy the Admissions Board that they are a fit and proper person to be admitted to practice. International students are advised to obtain assurance of recognition of the course by the relevant professional bodies in their preferred country of practice. International graduates require a relevant visa to complete a practical legal traineeship and a supervised workplace traineeship in Australia.
