The Master of Visual Arts degree is suited to artists who want to deepen their understanding of the contemporary art world and graduates who are changing disciplines and want to pursue and expand their artistic and creative capabilities. You will extend and refine your visual literacy skills, your ability to critically analyse artworks, and your understanding of key concepts in contemporary visual art. The degree encourages you to explore ideas in contemporary visual culture and develop your studio art practice so you can produce a significant body of work for exhibition. By joining a community of expert art practitioners you will be encouraged to experiment and stretch the boundaries of innovation across a broad range of media, including drawing, jewellery, painting, photography, print-making and sculpture.

Standard entry requirements

  • To be eligible for admission to the Master of Visual Arts, applicants must have one of: Pathway 1
  • 1 year program (80CP)
  • Hold a Bachelor degree (or higher) in a related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution AND a minimum of 3 years professional experience
  • Graduate Certificate in Visual Arts
  • Pathway 2
  • 1.5 year program (120CP)
  • A recognised Bachelor degree (or higher) in a related discipline with a minimum grade point average of 4.0 using a 7.0 scale
  • A combination of alternative admission criteria such as formal, informal, and non-formal learning deemed to be equivalent to the above.
  • Pathway 3
  • 2 year program (160CP)
  • Hold a Bachelor degree (or higher) in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
