This degree, designed for high-achieving secondary school leavers, provides the opportunity for you to progress directly into our Doctor of Medicine (5099)*.In your first year, you will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning medical science - anatomy, chemistry, biochemistry, genes and disease, law and ethics, microbiology, physiology, and epidemiology. You will also undertake a course in "interpersonal skills" which provides you with knowledge and skills in communication and interaction with patients.In second year, you will study these areas in greater depth and take medically focused courses in immunology, infectious disease, pharmacology, metabolism, structural biochemistry, and molecular genetics, as well as undertaking a capstone course (Integrated Medical Sciences) which integrates and applies the knowledge of basic sciences learned in your first and second years to solving clinical problems.Honours is available through an additional year of study.* The Doctor of Medicine is an extended Masters program (AQF Level 9).

Study pathways

Provisional entry into the Griffith Doctor of Medicine program Completion of the Bachelor of Medical Science program with a GPA of at least 5.0 will see graduates gain seamless entry into the Doctor of Medicine (5099). The type of place in the Doctor of Medicine program offered to Bachelor of Medical Science graduates who meet the requirements will be allocated according to the GPA achieved in the Bachelor of Medical Science taking into account individual preferences. In the interests of equity and fairness, applicants who do not achieve the GPA regardless of circumstances such as illness, misadventure or disadvantage during the Bachelor of Medical Science program will not meet the stated criteria for admission and, therefore, will not be considered for entry to the Doctor of Medicine program.
