Master Degrees (Coursework) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.This course is designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of 21st century learners. Graduates from this course will be well-placed to enter leadership pathways in their teaching careers. Theory components of the course are delivered fully online, in order to provide more flexible access. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional experience in schools and/or early learning centres, culminating in a final professional placement of 5 continuous weeks.

Subjects
- This course includes professional experience units which will be undertaken concurrently with core studies. All students are required to successfully complete compulsory professional experience placements in schools and/or early learning centres as part of designated units throughout the course. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis for the number of days shown in a continuous block and students need to plan carefully to ensure they are able to meet this commitment. The total number of days of professional experience in the course will satisfy all states' requirements for teacher registration. No more than 25% of professional experience days may be undertaken in schools outside Australia. Therefore, students will only be able to complete one 3 week placement outside Australia and will be required to complete all other placements within Australia. None of the four professional experience placements can be broken or split into shorter periods.
Standard entry requirements
Applicants usually require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Recognition
This course is recognised nationally as an initial pre-service teaching qualification. Initial Teacher Education courses in Australia are accredited by the relevant authority in the state or territory in which the institution providing the qualification is based. Accordingly, the Master of Teaching course provided by Curtin University is fully accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of WA (TRBWA) and graduates of the course are able to register as practising teachers with the registration body in their home state or territory, based on the course accreditation provided by the TRBWA.
Study pathways
A current Working with Children clearance (as required in the state or country of residence) is compulsory. Due to the specialist nature of the teaching profession, and the professional experience placements within this course, all successful applicants will be required to have a current Working with Children clearance and any other relevant State requirements before engaging in any professional placement. If students have any doubt about their eligibility to acquire these clearances they should contact the local Teacher Registration Authority.
