Looking ahead: future-proofing your career

Brought to you by University of South Australia

When it comes to choosing your future career, a crystal ball would be nice. While you want a profession that inspires you, the reassurance of opportunities post-graduation is equally important.

So how do you predict the future? While a working crystal ball isn’t easy to come by, the South Australian Government has developed the next best thing: Growth State. This ‘plan for prosperity’, which outlines nine growth areas, was developed following extensive industry consultation to accelerate business expansion and job creation across South Australia.

It’s a great window into the future of the city of Adelaide (in South Australia). The plan sets out a number of targets to achieve by 2030 through collaboration with industry partners. It gives students who are considering studying in Adelaide the unique opportunity to align their study interest with future growth.

Known for its practical and industry-focused degrees, the University of South Australia offers a number of postgraduate qualifications to support these priority areas, including degrees available for online, mid-year entry.

Thanks to its Start Online – Transfer to On-Campus Later study option, the university is offering students the flexibility to start their degrees now.

Along with the recent release of the Growth State plan, it’s the perfect time to master your way towards the future of work.

A healthy future

It’s not surprising that health and medical industries feature in the South Australian Government’s plan, given the high demand for health management professionals globally. The Master of Health Services Management offers a unique blend of health and business courses with a contemporary focus. You can partner with industry through completing a major project targeting real-world health management issues and advance into leadership and management positions across diverse health and ageing sectors.

Get connected

Communication skills are vital in the plan’s focus area of Creative Industries, but also more broadly across all priority growth areas. The Master of Communication responds to the fast-changing needs of employment and society encompassing communication and media — one of the fastest growing sectors of employment globally. In this degree you will develop projects with affiliated industry partners to apply skills while gaining practical experience.

Data your way forward

With technology continually evolving at high-speed, there is increasing demand for graduates in this field. The State Government’s plan calls for an average 6% growth per annum, with gross value-add for the sector to reach $365 million by 2030. The Master of Data Science offers you the chance to enter the revolutionary area of big data and learn to analyse and visualise rich data sources, spot data trends and generate data management strategies.

Engineer your future

With a range of engineering supported industries on the list — from hi-tech to energy, mining, space and defence — there’s never been a better time to study engineering. At the University of South Australia, students have access to a new Fast-track to Masters option, which enables you to complete a master’s qualification in one year and accelerate your engineering career. You can increase your earning potential, broaden your skills and career opportunities for a competitive edge in the job market.

While you can’t predict the future, you can certainly keep a close eye on where it’s headed.

Take the lead with a degree from the University of South Australia and get ready to be part of the Growth State plan. Thanks to the university’s Start Online Now – Transfer to On-Campus Later option, you can commence your study online in July, August or September this year and get ready to transfer to on-campus in Adelaide as soon as borders reopen.
