Sociology is the study of society. It examines social life, cultural and social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behaviour. Sociology involves asking questions about human life and society, developing understandings of our diverse and rapidly changing world, and identifying the causes of'and solutions to social problems.

Structure

The Bachelor of Social Science requires the successful completion of 144 credit points as specified in the relevant degree structure below, including:a. core subjects to the value of 66 credit points;b. a social science major to the value of 48 credit points;and either:c. elective subjects to the value of 30 credit points. Elective spaces may be used to complete a Social Science or General Schedule minor;ord. students enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Science (Pathway to Primary Education) (Q344) must complete the Foundations in Teaching minor (24 credit points) and one 6 credit point elective.Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Science (Pathway to Primary Education) (Q344) are required to achieve a WAM of 65 to be eligible for enrolment in the three postgraduate 900 level subjects in the final year of study, and require an overall WAM of 65 to qualify for preferntial admission to the Master of Teaching (Primary).The Bachelor of Social Science (Pathway to Primary Education) (Q344) is available at Wollongong campus only.As per the General Course Rules, no more than one subject may be cross counted towards a minor, major or core degree requirement.Students must not complete more than 60 credit points of 100 level subjects.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia.
