The Bachelor of Molecular Biotechnology Bachelor of Business is designed to prepare you for scientific practice in the biotechnology industry or equip you for entry into business and management in science-based businesses or institutions.You will study the biological processes of living organisms and learn the skills required to manipulate processes in the development of new pharmaceuticals, vaccines, food or organic substances. This combined degree allows you to choose between a career in business or biotechnological science.
Structure
The course comprises a total of 192 credit points, made up of 96 credit points of biotechnology subjects and 96 credit points of business subjects. Graduation from the biotechnology component of the combined degree is not possible prior to completion of all components of the combined degree. Students wishing to graduate with a Bachelor of Biotechnology prior to completion of the business component of the combined degree must apply for transfer to the Bachelor of Biotechnology single degree program where they must complete all requirements for the stand-alone single degree. Students can complete the course over four years full time. Full-time attendance involves approximately 16 hours each week on campus. Students may also be able to complete the course part time, usually at the rate of two subjects a session (a 50 per cent load), taking eight years to complete. Part-time students may need to attend science classes for at least one half-day a week, in addition to evening classes.

Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level. Depending on disciplines chosen, students may be eligible for entry to the relevant professional associations.
Study pathways
Honours is available as an additional year to meritorious students. There is provision for students already enrolled in a Bachelor of Biotechnology or a Bachelor of Business degree to transfer to this combined degree program, provided they meet the entry requirements for the combined degree. Students wishing to transfer from the combined degree program to the Bachelor of Business single degree program, and whose ATAR is less than the current entry rank for the Bachelor of Business, are required to apply for admission through the Universities Admissions Centre in the non-current school leaver category.
Further information
Graduates can work in both areas of their majors. They can work as scientists or managers in a bioanalytical lab, vaccine manufacturers, analysts, biotechnologists, product developers, and research scientists. They can work in product development in a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, wineries or breweries, quality control and quarantine, and drug and medicine research. Graduates can also be analysts, biotechnologists, marketers, product developers or research scientists with industry or scientific research organisations.
