University of Queensland, The (UQ)

Established in 1909, the University of Queensland is the oldest tertiary institution in the State and one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. The University aims to enable students and staff to positively influence the society in which they live by creating a learning and discovery environment in which they can develop and fulfil their aspirations. It rewards excellence, openness and innovation and encourages widespread engagement with state, national and international communities. The main campus is at St Lucia in Brisbane with UQ Gatton located 80 kilometres to the west and UQ Herston campus located in the Brisbane Hospital precinct. The UQ Brisbane City site is located in the Brisbane CBD. Other UQ locations include teaching hospitals and health centres, veterinary science centres, agricultural science farms, marine research stations, physics research stations, seismograph stations and an underground mine. University of Queensland students include school leavers plus students from interstate and overseas. International students from over 100 countries account for a large percentage of total enrolments, diversifying cultural life on campus and providing opportunities for international networking.
