The Master of Information Technology (MIT) is a broad, flexible and technical degree. It offers exciting and diverse career opportunities and challenges. This program provides foundation IT skills for entrants with limited IT experience. It is also suited to experienced IT professionals wanting to enhance their skills. Enhance and apply your current skills within emerging technology driven growth areas. These areas include IT, communications, management, business and entrepreneurship. Broaden your career opportunities by developing advanced research and analytical skills. Students can choose to specialise in three key interest areas: - Business analytics - Management information systems. - Artificial Intelligence
Structure
The program requirements and the volume of learning are dependent on the student's prior academic qualifications.To complete the Master of Information Technology:The MIT comprises of 160 units, in which students choose to complete a No-Specialisation or one Specialisation pathway. No Specialisation pathway:- Students complete 80 units of core courses and 80 units of courses chosen from the course list.Specialisation pathwaysStudents may choose one from the following Specialisations:- Business Analytics Specialisation: 80 units of core courses, 40 units of compulsory courses and 40 units of courses chosen from the course list or;- Management Information Systems Specialisation: 80 units of core courses, 40 units of compulsory courses and 40 units of courses chosen from the course list or;- Artificial Intelligence Specialisation: 80 units of core courses, 40 units of compulsory courses and 40 units of courses chosen from the course list.
Standard entry requirements
AQF Level 7 entry:Students with a three-year Bachelor degree in a non-related field of study to Information Technology are eligible to undertake the 160 unit program, which can be completed in 2 years full time or 4 years part time.Students with a three-year Bachelor degree in a non-related field of study to Information Technology, who also hold a minimum of two years of relevant senior level industry experience** , will study between 120 – 160 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous work experience.Students with a three-year Bachelor degree in a related field of study* are eligible to undertake a 120 unit program that can be completed in 1.5 years full time or 3 years part time.AQF Level 8 entry:Students with a four-year Bachelor Honours degree in a non-related field of study to Information Technology will study between 120 – 160 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous studies.Students with a Graduate Certificate in a non-related field of study to Information Technology will study between 140 – 160 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous studies.Students with a Graduate Diploma in a non-related field of study to Information Technology will study between 120 – 140 units. Students will be advised of specific program requirements depending on the content of previous studies.Students with a Graduate Diploma in a related field of study* are eligible to undertake a 120 unit program, which can be completed in 1.5 years full time or 3 years part time.Students with a four year Bachelor Honours degree in a related field of study* are eligible to undertake the 80 unit program, which can be completed in 1 year full time or 2 years part time.
Recognition
The Master of Information Technology (Callaghan, Sydney and Online) is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). This accreditation applies to the 'no specialisation' pathway, and the Business Analytics and Management Information Systems specialisations. The Artificial Intelligence specialisation is provisionally accredited for students who commence in 2026. The program is not accredited at Singapore (NAIHE).
