Computer Scientists work on challenging, complex problems. They develop the foundation for new software technologies, both theoretical and practical. Computer science is fundamental to the newest trends in computing, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, quantum computing, cybersecurity advancements and the development of immersive virtual and augmented reality experiences. These technologies are part of everyday life. Think AI-powered virtual assistants on your phone, machine learning based disease prediction and health monitoring, sophisticated cyber security protocols protecting social media data, VR and AR gaming experiences or educational tools, and smart home appliances that learn and adapt to user preferences.

Structure

  • The Bachelor of Computer Science is a three year program, students are required to complete 240 units comprised of the following:- 160 units of Core courses- 80 unit major chosen from one of the three majors (20 units of Core courses also count towards the major for a total of 80 units): Software Development
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Cyber Security- 20 units of Elective

Subjects

  • Students are able to specialise in their degree by choosing one of the three majors: Artificial Intelligence
  • Cyber Security
  • Software Development.

Standard entry requirements

Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting the minimum selection rank, or satisfying the requirements for an approved admission scheme.

Recognition

The Bachelor of Computer Science major in Software Development and major in Cyber Security are accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). The new major in Artificial Intelligence is not accredited by the Australian Computer Society.

Study pathways

A Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) is available also available to meritorious students, as an additional year of full-time or equivalent part-time study.
