The Bachelor of Biomedicine is the ideal preparation for a career in medicine and professional health. The degree offers 14 majors across a range of biomedical disciplines and is the ideal choice for students who are interested in entering the health professions. This course prepares students for the challenges of healthcare delivery and biomedical research. At the core of the degree is knowledge of the normal structure and function of the body and consideration of the determinants of disease. Our integrated curriculum emphasises the relationship between the biomedical science disciplines that underpin modern medicine and prepares students for the challenges of contemporary health delivery and research. You'll learn in the company of like-minded peers who will go on to be your networks of the future. Students will develop fundamental skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, the analysis of evidence and communication. You can apply to the Bachelor of Biomedicine on its own, or in a Graduate Degree Package (GDP) with Dental Surgery, Engineering, Law, Optometry, or Physiotherapy. You can apply for a GDP direct from completing an Australian Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate (IB) as a domestic or international student in Australia or as a domestic student outside Australia. The Bachelor of Biomedicine prepares students for a range of health-related postgraduate programs, specialised graduate research and a career contributing to the advancement of human health. Graduate pathways include audiology, dentistry, medicine, early childhood education, engineering, law, nursing, optometry, physiotherapy, psychology and speech pathology. A small but growing number of students combine the degree with graduate law, commerce or management. The degree is an ideal pathway into the University's health-related graduate professional entry degrees, such as the Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Optometry (OD) and Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT). A newly redesigned Doctor of Medicine will be launched in 2022, allowing students to build their own unique medical degree. Practical time in clinics and research options will start in the first year. The core units will be available online, allowing flexibility. And discovery subjects will offer a chance to explore a wide range of topics or deep dive into a future specialty - the choice to learn extra skills and even take part in a joint degree. The Melbourne Medical School (MMS) will recognise prior knowledge for core content, and students who have studied the Bachelor of Biomedicine will be able to explore the clinical, research and discovery tracks and create their own distinct path. Honours and masters programs leading into PhD pathways are available, with the student learning environment located within the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct.
