The skills you will develop will make you a bilingual professional equipped with a broad range of employment prospects in national and international settings. The Master of Commerce and Master of Translation Studies is taught by leading practitioners and scholars in business and translation studies and provides a unique opportunity to develop your linguistic abilities and breadth across selected areas including accounting, business information and logistics management, economics, employment relations, finance, human resource management or marketing. It also provides students with specialised and advanced translation training between English and one of eight languages. You will learn to critically assess the latest theories and practices of translation studies and develop a professional understanding of ethics and technology essential to the modern translator, along with the ability to apply these in commercial settings. The course includes some training in interpreting (spoken translation). Cognate studies related to business or translation at undergraduate level will allow you to complete this course in two-and-a-half years (if taking the coursework pathway) rather than three years. With several languages and commerce specialisations to choose from, and a course structure comprising core units and electives, you can tailor your degree according to your own interests and career aspirations. There are eight specialisations, one for each language pair on offer, and the following specialisations for the commerce side: accounting, business information and logistics management, economics, employment relations, finance, human resource management or marketing.
