This program is designed to prepare midwifery students to become competent, safe, woman-centred registered midwives. Midwifery students will utilise the best current evidence-based research to substantiate learning essential clinical skills in the context of contemporary practice. The program incorporates existing and emerging national and regional health priorities, health research, health policy and reform. Midwifery students will develop skills in critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and reflection to enable them to make sound clinical judgments and practice safely in clinical midwifery environments. As such students will be prepared to work in the full scope of midwifery practice, experiencing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal clinical environments. Professional practice experience is designed to ensure the program meets the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) Midwife Accreditation Standards (2020) Midwifery students in WA will have a variety of placements including public and private settings in both the city and rural areas, from large teaching hospitals to small healthcare centres. A limited number of places are also available for WA midwifery students to apply for within a partnership model with the St John of God Healthcare Group Midwifery students in NSW will have professional practice placements within the paid employment model through MidStart.

Standard entry requirements
The following entry requirements apply to this program: A bachelor degree in nursing or the equivalent and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registered nurses who do not have a level 7 AQF qualification in nursing may be admitted with an alternative mode of entry assessment and recent clinical nursing experience.
Study pathways
The Graduate Diploma of Perioperative Nursing will allow the Registered Nurse to advance towards a Master of Nursing.
