The Bachelor of Communications and Media introduces students to the field of communications and media and provides learning opportunities for them to develop in-depth skills in areas of communication practice. Students explore core concepts in cultural studies of the media, and develop creative, practical and technical skills appropriate for a wide range of industry settings. Graduates of this course will be multi-skilled media practitioners with an industry standard portfolio of work. The course also develops transferable skills, including the ability to think critically, creatively and ethically, solve problems innovatively, be culturally and globally aware, communicate effectively, and engage in life-long learning.Bachelor of Arts graduates think critically, creatively and ethically to solve problems and are culturally and globally aware. They have research and communication skills and can work both autonomously and with others. Students develop core skills through in-depth study of at least one major discipline area, selected from the traditional humanities, social and behavioural sciences, and/or communications and media. In upper year levels, students may undertake specialised learning that complements their professional and/or personal interests. Internships enable students to apply knowledge and skills in the workplace and to hone work-ready aptitudes. Students can also take advantage of short and long-term international learning opportunities through the Experience the World and Study Abroad programs. Arts graduates are valued across a range of industries and workplaces, and are well-placed to make a life-long contribution to the intellectual, cultural and civic life of communities.
Must complete a minimum of 800 Units of Credit, which include the following required and elective courses (see Appendices A and B): • 50 Units of Credit from two (2) Core Curriculum Courses • 300 Units of Credit from compulsory and elective Communications and Media Courses, of which 200 Units of Credit must be used to form a Communications and Media Major 3366 Bachelor of Communications and Media / Bachelor of Arts Page 5 of 8 Effective Date: 1 January 2023 • 200 Units of Credit to form an Arts Major • 250 Units of Credit from elective Courses, which may be used to form an additional Major, Minor or Specialisation, and which in Fremantle must include ARTS1000 Academic Writing, Communication and Research.

Standard entry requirements
Indicative ATAR of 70 with a score of 50+ in ATAR English, ATAR Literature or ATAR English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) OR Minimum International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 24 OR Completed AQF Certificate IV or higher in a relevant discipline, from an accredited provider such as TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with a score of 50+ in ATAR English, ATAR Literature, or ATAR English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD).
