The English Literature Major allows you to explore the powerful and complex development of literature in a variety of contexts and to investigate writing through the ages in a variety of forms including prose, poetry and drama. The Major offers a balanced approach to a diversity of literature in English, ranging from the works of Shakespeare to Classical and Romantic poetry and the Victorian novel, to children’s literature, Australian and Irish literatures and comparative Indigenous literatures.

Standard entry requirements

Indicative ATAR of 70 with a score of 50+ in ATAR English, ATAR Literature or ATAR English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) OR Minimum International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 24 OR Completed AQF Certificate IV or higher in a relevant discipline, from an accredited provider such as TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with a score of 50+ in ATAR English, ATAR Literature, or ATAR English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD).
