This program provides graduates with the skills, knowledge and qualifications to pursue a career as ambulance paramedics with agencies such as the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and was the first such course to be offered in Queensland. The course includes supervised clinical practice with QAS and in other clinical settings. The first year of this course focuses on foundation studies in the anatomy and physiology of the human body, and an introduction to pathology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and clinical practice. Students will complete their first placement at the end of first year. During second and third years, students will continue theoretical studies but with an increasing emphasis on clinical skills and transition to professional practice.


288 credit points of core paramedic units. Students complete 18 weeks of clinical practice across the 3 years.

  • Assumed knowledge: English, or Literature, or English and Literature, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C).


This course is currently accredited by the Council of Ambulance Authorities. Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Paramedicine Board of Australia and for membership with Paramedics Australasia.

Hepatitis B vaccination. QUT offers a range of scholarships that provide real support for students. Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Rubella, Tetanus and Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccinations are mandatory for all students attending a Queensland Health facility for placement. Hepatitis A, Influenza and Poliomyelitis are highly recommended for all Health students. Our offer guarantee can give you peace of mind about your study choices. If you receive an ATAR or selection rank equal to or higher than the offer guarantee, you are guaranteed a place in the course regardless of the threshold. This means that when you know your ATAR or selection rank you can check your eligibility for a QUT course before receiving an offer. You still need to lodge a QTAC application by the closing date. A small number of courses do not participate in the offer guarantee scheme.
