The Bachelor of Sport Coaching and Development prepares students for employment in coaching, coach education, sport science and sport development. Students will learn to apply a range of skills in the areas of athlete performance, sport management, fundamental sport science and advanced coaching sciences. The course places a focus on sport management subjects along with subjects addressing more advanced aspects of sport coaching and performance analysis. Students will also complete core subjects in: human biosciences physiology biomechanics skill acquisition sport psychology talent identification and game development. Sport coaching placements and internships will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge to real-life situations. The Bachelor of Sport Coaching and Development also provides a pathway to a range of Allied Health Masters courses, including Sport Analytics, as well as Honours.

Structure

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Sport Coaching and Development, students must compete 360 credit points consisting of: 315 core credit points 45 elective credit points

Standard entry requirements

  • Recent secondary education - VTAC prerequisite: Year 12 English prerequisite (20) - Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.
  • Recent secondary education - VTAC prerequisite: Year 12 subject prerequisite - Other - Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in two of Biology, Chemistry, Health And Human Development, any Mathematics, Physical Education or Physics.
  • Non Year 12 - Vocational Education & Training: VET prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
  • Non Year 12 - Higher Education study: HE prerequisites - Course specific requirements - Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
  • International: IELTS - 6.5 < 6.0 (PG minimum) - 6.5 IELTS (Academic) with no individual band less than 6.0.

Recognition

The Bachelor of Sport Coaching and Development is accredited by the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA). Students who have completed 120 credit points of core subjects at Year Level one within the Bachelor of Sport Coaching and Development are eligible to obtain ASCA Level 1 Accreditation. Professional membership may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details. The Bachelor of Sport Coaching and Development is endorsed by the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE). Graduates of the Bachelor of Sport Coaching and Development may be eligible to apply for registration with Fitness Australia as a Registered Exercise Professional (AusREP). Students who have completed 120 credit points of core subjects as Year Level one are eligible to apply. Professional registration may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.
