Data science is a multidisciplinary field that applies various techniques of data analysis, including computational and statistical methods, data mining and knowledge discovery. Together with specific domain knowledge, these techniques are used to extract information and uncover hidden patterns, trends and correlations in large quantities of data collected from a diverse variety of sources. Data scientists provide competitive advantage and allow businesses and governments to apply knowledge and actionable insights across a broad range of application areas.

To qualify for the Master of Data Science, a student must complete 72 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants who do not hold the Graduate Diploma in Data Science must normally hold a degree or equivalent qualification in science, medical science, information technology, mathematics, statistics or a closely related discipline from an approved tertiary institution.
  • However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
