The degree aims to prepare students for professional practice as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP). An AEP provides a unique and specialised role by offering exercise interventions as part of the primary and secondary prevention as part of treatment of chronic and other health conditions.

Structure

Students complete sixteen core (compulsory) topics including a dissertation, aimed at providing students with an awareness of medical and other allied health interventions showing appropriate exercise approaches and interdisciplinary scope of practice and gain the skills to assess, monitor and modify exercise interventions within hospitals, return to work and aged care populations in an individualised and client-centred approach.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold an Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) accredited Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification and be eligible for full membership with ESSA as an Exercise Scientist and need to have completed 140 hours of practicum experience topic.Selection is based on academic merit.Applicants holding a closely related non-ESSA accredited course may wish to apply for the 'Graduate Entry Assessment', once they can demonstrate they meet the ESSA Exercise Science Standards and 140 hours of approved practical experience, for membership as an Exercise Scientist.Applicants must also show English language competence equivalent to a score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) or equivalent, unless subject to an exemption as defined by ESSA. Potential students must read the eligibility requirements for obtaining credentialing with ESSA following graduation, in terms of ESSAs English Language Requirements https://www.essa.org.au/Public/Professional_Standards/English_Language_Requirements.aspx

Study pathways

This is a professional entry-level course and credit will not be awarded for prior learning unless applicants are transferring from other accredited postgraduate entry-level Exercise Physiology courses.
