Gender issues shape political, cultural and social institutions, as well as personal identity and relationships. The interdisciplinary field of Women's Studies reflects this wide scope by including social, cultural and political perspectives.This degree is designed to develop an appreciation of the rich, diverse and rapidly growing field of Women's Studies and to extend the critical understanding and practice of students within the boundaries of a discipline area.
Structure
- the course requires 72 units of study. Students complete core (compulsory) topics including a research thesis, reading project, or a major/minor research project, along with option topics chosen from a range of available topics. These topics aim to provide students the opportunity to develop the capacity to apply interdisciplinary approaches to feminist questions
- and to develop the conceptual and analytical thinking, and the research and writing skills, necessary to complete a successful thesis.

Applicants must hold an approved bachelor degree or equivalent qualification.
Study pathways
Applicants may be eligible to complete a one year program of study if they have successfully completed an honours degree in Women's/Gender Studies or the Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development, or equivalent. Credit may be granted, on application, for relevant work already completed in other approved programs.
