I really feel at home here. The environment on campus and in Ballarat is great, and I’ve had fantastic support from so many people across the university.
The course itself has a flexible structure that allows me to keep a good balance between study and other commitments. The lecturers are very knowledgeable and have great professional experience of social work, giving us excellent insights and examples, as well as theoretical knowledge. We have extensive work placements, gaining practical experience, and the subjects are all really interesting.
But the best thing about Federation University has been the excellent student support. So many people have helped me succeed in the course. The lecturers are always available when I have any questions, the counselling staff have been amazing, and the English Language Support Program has really helped me with my essay-writing language and skills.

Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice)
Ballarat’s one of the most beautiful cities in Australia, with lots of famous tourist attractions to visit. It gave me a great education and living standard, and the cost of living is cheaper than in other larger Australian cities.
I love living in regional Australia because it’s really relaxing, and I really feel part of the community. The teachers at Federation were warm and supportive and I made friends with people from all over the world.
My degree included extensive placements at IBM, and I now work there full-time as a Business Analyst and Application Developer. Working for a company like IBM has been my dream since I was a child, and Federation University gave me the opportunity to make that dream come true.

Bachelor of Nursing graduate 2019
The Bachelor of Nursing was fantastic. The facilities on campus are excellent, just like being in a hospital.
I had some wonderful experiences on my placements. I’ve worked in acute settings, theatre, aged care, mental health and rehabilitation in major hospitals and small regional clinics, giving me a great range of opportunities to increase my knowledge.
All of the course coordinators and lecturers were very helpful and supportive. I liked that lecturers were available online because it really helped me to review and fully understand my subjects. It’s been great to get to know so many friendly students from Australia and all over the world. Studying in Australia also really helped me to build confidence in my English.
I’m really happy that I chose Federation and I’m excited about my nursing
career and all the opportunities that are now available.
Melvin Flores
Master of Technology (Software Engineering)
Melvin Flores, from Paranaque City in the Philippines, is in the first year of his Master of Technology (Software Engineering) degree at Federation University’s Brisbane Campus.
“My experience has been great. The student support has been really good, and the campus has excellent facilities and is right in the heart of the city.
‘I chose Federation University because the cost and the content of the course really suited me and because of the close connections the university has with a wide range of major companies.
I’ve only been here a few months, but I’ve already had great industry experiences: I’ve done an internship program, networked with entrepreneurs, and even mentored children in simple programming, which has really been a lot of fun.
Opportunities like this have helped me to quickly build connections and feel at home in Australia.’

Master of Technology (Enterprise Systems and Business Analytics)
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt unsure how it would impact my studies. As we moved from studying on-campus to online, the staff made sure that students had all the support they needed to be able to continue their classes online. They even helped to supply equipment, such as laptops and internet, if students needed it.
At the same moment, my Capstone Master Project had commenced. At first it felt an impossible task to complete the project remotely, but by working in a team we were able to successfully complete one of the best projects to solve a real-life industry problem.
Although classes were virtual, we stayed well connected. Our team members worked individually from home and our lecturer connected with us each evening to help solve any issues.
I am now employed by the founder of the project at his start-up company at River City Labs. It goes to show how instrumental the program and campus were to help students succeed and find employment. Thank you, Federation University!
