This two-year postgraduate degree provides advanced professional training in psychology and a pathway to registration as a psychologist, with specialist preparation in clinical psychology - one of the nine areas of practice approved by the Psychology Board of Australia. Designed to integrate coursework, research and supervised placement components with an emphasis on experiential learning, the course helps you develop an advanced understanding of the relationships between psychological theory, the scientific evidence base, and their clinical applications. You'll build skills to operate from a scientist-practitioner perspective, including psychometric measurement, assessment and diagnosis, case formulation/conceptualisation, treatment planning and evidence-informed intervention strategies with adults, children and young people with complex clinical presentations. Across three clinical placements, you'll apply core clinical skills in real-world settings under the supervision of a registered clinical psychologist, while also developing professional capabilities in managing complex ethical and professional issues, working with the public and handling conflict situations. You'll complete an independent research project, including planning and conducting research, analysing data and writing a dissertation. This can be a physically and mentally challenging course.
