Master of Geospatial Intelligence

Curtin University

Type of institution: University/Higher Education Institution
Level: Postgraduate
CRICOS: 00301J

This course covers both the core and advanced techniques required for managing, analysing, combining and transforming location-based data and remotely sensed imagery to extract higher meaning (intelligence). The course provides students with the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and skills in geospatial intelligence by undertaking a significant location-based problem and producing a report over two semesters. Subject areas can be student, supervisor or industry led and preferably a combination of all three. Topics generally range from biodiversity, agriculture, urban planning, mining, defence, and emergency services, but are not restricted to these. It is designed for “up-skillers” or those seeking a career path change or a boost in their career progress. This course is available on-campus and by distance education (via online learning) to Australian and International students.

Subjects

  • This course comprises 14 units (13 core and 1 alternate core) taught over four semesters in the field of Geospatial Intelligence. It can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis. Alternate core units are photogrammetry or cartographic mapping, which are available in Semester 1 of the degree. Geographic information systems and remote sensing skills and web mapping are the other three units taught in the first semester. Geographic information systems and remote sensing skills are broadened in the second semester and taught with programming and spatial database management. The third semester teaches students how to analyse spatial data, critically review literature, source data and begin their major project. The final semester teaches dataset integration and modelling, particularly in the field of location-allocation and strengthens scripting prowess for the automation of complex tasks. It also requires the completion of the student
