Applications are invited for a PhD scholarship in Latin literature and/or Roman slavery. The scholarship is supported by the Australian National University (ANU) and is part of an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship. The Elephant in the Study: Working Latin Literature for the Enslaved is an ARC supported inquiry into the role and significance of enslaved co-authors in the production of Latin literature between approximately 100 BCE and 100 CE. The project will examine the implications of enslaved collaboration for the form, content and reception of classical Latin literature, and probe how such collaboration changes our notion of the histories of literature, authorship, and slavery.
