Lorna and Garth Robertson were married in 1943 and relocated from Sydney to Darwin in 1992 for the climate. Both Garth and Lorna were community-minded people, who volunteered their time and became advocates for social justice and equality regardless of age, religion, race or culture. They were passionate about equal access to education and although Lorna left Sydney Girls High School at the age of 15, she returned to study more than 60 years later at CDU, earning impressive marks towards a bachelor¿s degree.Lorna and Garth felt strongly about leaving a legacy which would help others, especially at the CDU: `The University of the Northern Territory'. This scholarship aims to benefit hard-working students who are challenged by disadvantage but wish to give back to their community by studying a course in Social Sciences.Garth died in 1997 and Lorna in 2010, at which time this memorial scholarship was donated in their honor by their son Rodger and grandsons Tom and David.
