The Criminology major will provide students with a broad suite of skills to identify, interpret and evaluate issues around crime, deviancy and justice from a social sciences perspective.We believe that practical experience is a vital part of your legal training. We are the only law school in New South Wales that requires you to complete a legal internship, providing highly valued industry experience.We are committed to social justice and providing a legal education which engages with the complexities of law’s intersection with society.This double degree delivers a practical and contextual legal education that prepares graduates not only for traditional careers in the legal profession but also for a wide range of careers in government, business and community organisations – as leaders, innovators and problem solvers.

Structure

The Bachelor of Social Science (Criminology) - Bachelor of Laws requires the successful completion of 240 credit points as specified below:All compulsory subjects for the Bachelor of Laws (114 credit points);30 credit points from the Bachelor of Laws Elective Law Schedule, including SOC 247 - see Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) for a list of elective subjects;at least 54 credit points of core subjects for the Bachelor of Social Science;at least 42 credit points from the Criminology major in the Bachelor of Social Science including SOC 247Students are only required to complete SOC 247 once. SOC 247 will count towards the Laws Electives and the Criminology Major.Students interested in studying this degree part-time should consult with the Law Head of Students by contacting askuow@uow.edu.au;Students commencing in Spring will undertake their first session in the Bachelor of Social Science (Criminology), before completing their first year of Law in their second year of enrolment.Students can complete LLB3396 Legal Internship Program once the pre-requisite requirements are satisfied. Students should refer to the School of Law for further information on opportunities.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia.
