This course offers training in the scientific principles of human physical activity and how they apply to the areas of sport and health. This includes assessment and testing of clients, effective design, management and evaluation of exercise programs, sports performance nutrition and related lifestyle factors. These skills may assist in the prevention of, or recovery from, injury, the maximisation of performance, and the general improvement of health and wellbeing. As part of the practical component of the course, students are expected to carry out exercise testing procedures and have these procedures carried out on themself.
Extensive practical experience is integrated throughout the course commencing in first year, and can include placement in the fitness/health industry, sports performance and rehabilitation centres. Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of practicum to graduate and meet the AAESS accreditation standard.
- Anatomy, biochemistry, biomechanics, learning and control of human movement, nutrition, physiology/exercise physiology, and the application of these fundamental sciences to sport, exercise, ageing, public health, rehabilitation, research.

- Assumed knowledge: Chemistry, Mathematics
Professional recognition: Accredited by Exercise and Sport Science Australia within the category of Exercise Science.

Practical experience: A minimum of 140 hours of practical experience is required to graduate and to meet the Exercise and Sport Science Australia accreditation standard. Practical experience is integrated throughout the course and includes placement in the fitness/health industry and sports performance centres. Placements may occur in holiday periods. A placement may take place outside Sydney. Students are be responsible for additional costs, including accommodation and travel. Career opportunities: Examples include exercise and sports scientist, corporate/personal fitness trainer, medical scientist, or careers in community health, work health and safety, injury prevention.
