Pharmacy is an exciting and varied career. Learn to counsel people on the best use of medications and provide advice on the symptoms and treatment of common ailments to allow people to better manage their health. Develop hands-on skills in the fully functioning demonstration pharmacy, including preparing and dispensing medicines. Theoretical knowledge in biomedical, pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacotherapeutics are taught in the program. As a pharmacist, you will contribute to a healthier society by educating and empowering members of the public to use medicines safely and effectively.

Qualification for the award of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) requires the completion of 320 units of approved courses.

Standard entry requirements

Previous Year 12 studies and/or Higher education, tertiary, post-secondary qualifications and/or Overseas qualifications considered equivalent to Australian qualifications.

Recognition

After graduating from a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) at UON, you can apply for provisional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia. You will then be required to complete additional supervised practice and examinations before you can apply for general registration.

Study pathways

Students achieving a sufficiently high grade point average by the end of the third year of the program will be invited to undertake the graded honours stream in the fourth year of the program.

Further information

Students will complete substantial supervised clinical practice in a range of diverse clinical contexts including, but not limited to, community pharmacy, primary health care clinics, residential aged care facilities, mental health services and acute care hospitals. Rural placements will be mandatory and occur throughout rural and remote New South Wales and other locations in Australia. Travel, accommodation and related expenses for work-integrated learning/placements will be the responsibility of the student. The Bachelor of Pharmacy (honours) degree and future professional practice is both mentally and physically demanding. The award of this degree depends on the student satisfactorily completing and passing all academic and practical components.
