This one-year degree provides Australian registered nurses with the opportunity to upgrade their qualifications to a Bachelor's degree level. During this degree, students will evaluate and apply concepts drawn from nursing theory and research to professional practice. Students will develop an increased awareness of the effects of cultural, social, economic, legal and ethical influences on the development of the nursing profession and increased knowledge that will enable them to accept responsibility for more complex client management.

Structure

1 year full-time or part-time equivalent. (The duration of the degree is dependent upon entry qualifications.) Students will study the core subjects of Promoting Clinical Excellence, Evidence Appreciation and Application in Health Care Practice, Leadership in Health Care Practice, and Community Development Nursing: Theory and Practice. In addition to these core subjects students will have the flexibility to choose elective subjects from a range of subjects on offer, including Family Centred Nursing, Therapeutic Use of Self, Contemporary Research in Practice, Cultural Competence in Health Care Practice, Therapeutics in Nursing, Challenges of Ageing and Practice Development, and Person Centred Nursing.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must be Registered Nurses, eligible for registration in New South Wales or their home country, and have obtained their initial qualification after 1972.

Study pathways

Advanced standing of up to 24 credit points may be approved for candidates with post-certificate qualifications and experience. Academic advice is required.
