This practice-based qualification builds on the existing Graduate Certificate of Health Professions Education. It is suitable for a broad range of health professionals who are, or will be, engaged in the teaching, assessment, evaluation, curriculum design, mentoring and supervision of health professionals in a range of clinical and other contexts.You have the option of taking an education practice or a research practice capstone. The research capstone can articulate to a PhD.

Structure

This course is structured into three parts: Part A. Health Professions core, Part B: Electives, and Part C. Application studiesPart A. Health professions education coreThis study will provide you with professional teaching and advanced supervisory skills in both clinical and non-clinical environments. It will facilitate the application of principles and theories that inform educational practice and allow for specialism through the choice of elective studies.Part B. ElectivesIn this study, you will have the opportunity to expand your on your key areas of interest through completion of electives that will develop skills and knowledge in health professions education.Part C. Application studiesYou have the opportunity to choose one of the following pathways:a) Coursework – in this pathway you will undertake a core capstone unit and combine it with elective units to suit your career interests. In the capstone unit you will have the option of focusing on education practice or research practice and will be required to integrate, extend and apply knowledge and skills gained in the course to professional practice development.b) Research – in this pathway you will undertake a research in health professions sciences unit and complete a research project. You will be required to demonstrate your ability to integrate and apply theories, principles and practice to a specific health professions education scenario or issue.Master's entry pointsDepending on prior qualifications you may receive entry level credit (a form of block credit) which determines your point of entry to the course:If you are admitted at entry level 1 you complete 72 points, comprising Part A, Part B and Part C.If you are admitted at entry level 2 you complete 48 points, comprising Part A and Part C and some electives from Part B.Note: If you are eligible for credit for prior studies you may elect not to receive the credit and complete one of the higher credit-point options.Course progression mapThe course progression map provides guidance on unit enrolment for each semester of study.
