The graduate diploma in law is ideal for law graduates and non-law graduates wanting to acquire further legal expertise, and adds value in the workplace as well as providing the opportunity to hone legal knowledge and skills. The Graduate Diploma in Law enables graduates of law and other disciplines to develop advanced knowledge and skills for legal or professional practice or higher learning, and is a pathway for entry to a masters degree.The Graduate Diploma in Law offers you the flexibility to choose from a broad range of units, enabling you to individually tailor your course to suit your interests and professional needs. This program offers a great deal of choice as you can choose from the full range of Monash Law's postgraduate program, investigating contemporary legal issues from both international and local perspectives. This degree will enable you to acquire further legal expertise, adding value in the workplace as well as providing the opportunity to hone your legal knowledge and skills and build on your existing experience. While this course normally comprises eight coursework units, applicants holding an undergraduate degree may be given credit for up to four units for recognised work experience or prior learning.

Structure

The course consists of eight units. You can choose from the full range of Monash Law's postgraduate program, enabling you to individually tailor your studies to suit your interests and professional needs. You will investigate contemporary legal issues from both international and local perspectives and acquire further legal expertise, adding value in the workplace as well as providing the opportunity to hone your legal knowledge and skills and build on your existing experience. Depending on your interests and motivation you can choose a program of study in which you will plan and execute a research-based project with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability. This study option can provide a pathway to doctoral studies.

An Australian Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification approved by the faculty.
