A common first year of study provides a broad skills base, and students develop sound theoretical knowledge and gain opportunities for hands-on practical experience. Engineering design, communication and project management are central to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). Students undertake a full-year thesis in the final year, completing a significant research project. Students choose one of the five majors: civil, mechanical, electrical and electronic, electronic systems and internet of things, or chemical engineering and one of the several minors such as data science, infrastructure and planning, maths, mechatronics, mining and minerals, sustainability, water resource management, physics or software.

Structure

96 credit points. All students must complete a minimum of 60 days of engineering professional practice during their studies and must hold a current Senior First Aid certificate at time of graduation.

Electronic systems and internet of things major only available at Cairns campus. International student visa-holders must not enrol in more than a third of the total credit points for the course in online, distance or external study.
