This course is specifically tailored for registered nurses in Australia who aspire to enhance their contribution towards the development of healthcare services and the nursing profession. Graduates acquire the skills and knowledge required to make a meaningful impact on nursing practice, exhibit leadership qualities to influence community health positively, conduct research to enhance nursing knowledge and practice, demonstrate specialised nursing skills, and evaluate and assess evidence-based practices through critical analysis.This course has replaced the 1.5 year Master of Nursing (Acute Care) (Coursework and Research) (Child and Family Health) (Critical Care) (Diabetes Management and Education) and (Mental Health).

Structure

  • Students complete core (compulsory) and option topics in either a coursework or coursework and research stream. Topics are chosen from a range of option topics available
  • topic areas include but are not limited to aged care, critical care nursing, diabetes management, emergency nursing, mental health nursing and primary health care. These topics aim to provide students with an in-depth understanding of contemporary healthcare practices and develop the skills necessary to apply this knowledge proficiently in both national and international contexts.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification
  • Hold current Registered Nurse registration and have two years (Full-time equivalent) work experience as a Registered Nurse, within the last five years.Applicants must provide details of their registered nursing work experience in their SATAC application.

Recognition

Graduates will not be eligible for nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
