This degree is designed to provide significant and substantial advanced knowledge of and skills in the field of Mechanical Engineering, obtained through a combination of coursework and research study. This degree will incorporate a broad base of mechanical studies including mechanical design, solids, fluids, control, vibrations, renewable energy and mechanical behaviour of materials.
Structure
Students complete eleven core (compulsory) topics and either a research project or a thesis and option topics chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to provide students the foundations that will underpin ongoing professional development, preparing them for further study or for a career in mechanical engineering.
Standard entry requirements
- Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or closely related field
- Or hold the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Science (Mechanical stream) from Flinders University
- Or have completed a minimum of one year full-time equivalent in the Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical) or equivalent qualification.Applicants without such a qualification should apply for the Master of Engineering Science (Mechanical) (2CM240).Due to limited Commonwealth supported places available, selection is based on academic merit.
Recognition
This course is accredited at the level of professional engineer. Professional engineering courses accredited by Engineers Australia are recognised internationally under the Washington Accord.
Study pathways
The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
