Established in 1954, Elly Lukas Beauty Therapy College is Australia's specialist centre of excellence for beauty, make-up and spa therapy education. The college offers beauty therapy, massage, make-up and spa therapy courses, including the highest qualification available in Australia - the Diploma of Beauty Therapy.
Diploma of Beauty Therapy
This qualification trains individuals to be competent in a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services, which includes facial massage, body massage, hair removal, spa treatments, lash and brow treatments, make-up, aromatherapy, providing advice on beauty treatments and services, selling retail skin care and cosmetic products, and coordinating a work team. Graduates may work as skilled beauty therapists in salons, spas and the wider beauty industry.
Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy
This qualification trains individuals to be competent in a prescribed range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including facial massage, lash and brow treatments, make-up, waxing and body massage, as well as providing advice on and selling retail skin care and cosmetic products. Graduates may work as skilled beauty therapists in the beauty therapy services stream of the beauty industry.
Certificate III in Beauty Services
This qualification trains individuals to be competent in interacting with customers and providing a range of beauty services, which may include make-up, waxing, nail technology, lash and brow treatments, and demonstrating and selling retail skin care and other cosmetic products. Graduates may work in beauty therapy salons and in the wider beauty industry.
Certificate II in Retail Make-up and Skin Care
This qualification trains individuals to be competent in communicating in the workplace, interacting with customers, demonstrating and selling make-up and retail skin care products, and performing routine salon or store functions. You will learn practical skills to deliver a variety of make-up looks, including make-up for day, evening, bridal, fashion and glamour occasions.
For over 60 years, students from around the world have studied at Elly Lukas and achieved excellence in their careers in the beauty, spa and wellness industries. At the end of their diploma course, students sit for independent examinations conducted by the prestigious examining bodies. Founded in Switzerland, CIDESCO is a non-profit body that conducts examinations around the world. Widely regarded as the most prestigious of beauty and spa therapy qualifications, the CIDESCO diploma is universally accepted by leading employers around the world. ITEC and CIBTAC are both prestigious awarding bodies based in the United Kingdom. Elly Lukas students are able to sit for all three international examinations at the end of their course.
In addition to classroom learning, the college also conducts study tours to visit the north Queensland luxury spa resorts in order to give students insight into the industry, as well as create potential employment opportunities. A European and North American study tour to spas, resorts and conferences in these regions is also available each year as an optional program. Upon completion of the diploma course, graduates may apply to continue their studies through the Bachelor of Health Science (Dermal Therapies) and can receive one and a half years of credit, completing the degree course in an additional two and a half years of study. The Melbourne campus features modern equipment and state-of-the-art facilities designed to give students valuable knowledge and experience, with up-to-date salon treatments as they become available in the industry.
The college's job placement program actively places students in work placements in leading salons and spas during their training, enabling our students to obtain invaluable hands-on experience while they progress through the course. Candidates may also apply for the partnership program to work with Steiner (UK), which operates 140 luxury spas on board cruise liners and is the largest employer of beauty, massage and spa therapists in the world.
