The Bachelor of Science (Nursing) is designed to meet the regulations of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Students who successfully complete the course requirements are eligible for recommendation by the Head of School to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as Division 1 comprehensive nurse. Registration is subject to meeting all the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. To meet registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia students are expected to complete the course within 7 years. Failure to complete the course in the allocated time may necessitate undertaking additional units to ensure currency of practice.

Subjects
- During the course there is considerable emphasis on developing relevant clinical skills to meet the needs of changing healthcare. A large proportion of the course involves simulated learning and professional experience in a variety of hospital and community settings and includes the care of people of all ages across healthy to acutely unstable states. Simulated practice supports the development of competency prior to professional experience placements in a safe learning environment. Clinical visits range from observation visits to more prolonged periods in selected health agencies where students are given increasing involvement and responsibility in nursing activities under the supervision of academic and industry staff. Students commence professional experience placements in second semester, which may involve a rural placement and shift work, including night duty and weekend work.

Recognition
Graduates, on successful completion of the course, are eligible to apply for registration as a Division 1 nurse (Registered Nurse) with the NMBA. Graduates must also meet NMBA mandatory registration standards, these include (but are not limited to) Criminal History Screening and English language Proficiency, health, conduct or performance issues.
Study pathways
Those with an Australian recognised Enrolled Nurse qualification and who are enrolled with AHPRA as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2) may be eligible for the Enrolled Nursing to Registered Nursing Stream and may receive exemption to the value of 200 credits. Those who are registered with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) may be eligible for the Registered Nurse Conversion Non-registration Stream and may receive exemption to the value of 500 credits. Those who have completed an AQF equivalent diploma in nursing, have current registration as a registered nurse in the country of qualification (or subsequent employment) and have completed a minimum of three months of fulltime employment as a registered nurse in an acute healthcare setting within the last 5 years may be eligible for the Registered Nurse Conversion Australian Registration Stream and may receive exemption to the value of 500 credits.
