Children's Diabetes Centre Honours Scholarship

The Childrens Diabetes Centre (http://www.childrensdiabetescentre.org.au/) is based at Princess Margaret Hospital/Perth Childrens Hospital and is funded through a 5 year, $2.5m grant by the National Health and Medical Research Council and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Scholarship is intended to support high quality research in a range of areas related to improving the lives of patients with Type 1 Diabetes including: The performance of advanced insulin pumps for improving glycaemic control in patients with Type 1 Diabetes including, predictive low glucose monitoring, closed loop and hybrid closed loop systems. Understanding the impact of these systems on quality of life, fear of hypoglycaemia and compliance using psychosocial methodology to identify successful predictors for uptake of this technology. Applying human factor analysis in order to understand useability of such technology to help improve diabetes education. Determining the health economic benefits of modern insulin pump therapy. Developing and evaluating guidelines to prevent exercise related hypoglycaemia. Carbohydrate requirements in Type 1 diabetics during various types of exercise. The effect of macronutrients on insulin requirements in Type 1 Diabetes to assist in the development of improved algorithms for insulin delivery. Enhancing the school experience for patients with Type 1 Diabetes
