The scholarships are open to students who have a Bachelor of Arts (Honours); possess an elementary knowledge of a Scandinavian language. A recipient of a major scholarship must undertake an approved course at a Scandinavian university during an academic year.

For the purposes of this scholarship, a Scandinavian country is Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland or the Faroe Islands.
