Advanced Polymeric Materials Scholarship

The scholarship will be provided for a PhD candidate to develop new knowledge in the development and use of advanced polymeric materials in cutting edge manufacturing techniques like additive manufacturing. The research will firstly seek to establish relationships between the polymer's chemical and physical properties, process parameters and the final performance of the part. Manipulation of the polymers rheological properties / thermal response will be investigated as a strategy of tailoring interlayer adhesion (porosity) and hence controlling anisotropy. The potential of suitably surface engineered nano-additives to control part properties and to introduce spatially resolved functional characteristics will be a key aspect investigated during the PhD.
Eligibility: Applicants must: be Australian citizens or permanent residents; have a first class honours or 2A honours, or a Master degree, in polymer/materials, science or engineering or chemistry from a reputable institution; or evidence of ability to generate high quality research outcomes (e.g. published papers); display excellent interpersonal, communication and written presentation skills; be able to commence full time research in 2015; and enrol in a postgraduate research (PhD) degree within the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
