The University Foundation Studies program prepares students for university study, both academically and socially, by offering units that are an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed for an undergraduate degree at UWS. This course is designed for students who need to build up a set of academic study and subject skills before undertaking a university degree.

The University Foundation Studies program offers streams in arts (for students wishing to study arts, humanities, social science, psychology, education or languages), business, computing, nursing and science (for students wishing to study science or engineering). After successfully completing a University Foundation Studies program and meeting the entry requirements, students are guaranteed entry into the first year of study in the corresponding UWS undergraduate degree*. Students can also choose to study a diploma course at the college, which leads straight into the second year of study in the corresponding UWS degree.

UWSCollege diploma programs are an alternative pathway to UWS for students who may not have qualified for direct entry or for those seeking additional support and preparation before moving on to university studies. Students who successfully complete a diploma program enter into the second year of the corresponding undergraduate degree at UWS. The following areas of study are available: arts, business and commerce, communication, construction management, design, engineering, health science, information and communications technology, science and social science.

UWSCollege also offers English language programs, taught by highly qualified Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) teachers. Courses include Communicating in English (General English), Academic English for Tertiary Studies, Advanced Academic English Skills and many more.

* Overall performance in a UWSCollege University Foundation Studies course is measured on a 10-point Grade Point Average (GPA) scale.

"What the University Foundation Studies course at UWSCollege did for me was make me ready for uni. I pretty much had an upper hand over people who started uni fresh from high school. When we got our first essays, everybody was like 'how do I write this?' And I already knew."
