This dual award program gives students the chance to develop their skills and knowledge in two areas - a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Materials Science and Engineering degree plus an additional area leading to a Bachelor of Engineering Science in Chemical Engineering. Students have a pathway to enhance their professional opportunities through developing cross-disciplinary skills and knowledge within a five year program

Structure

Students are required to complete 240 UOC, comprising 168 UOC from the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Materials Science and Engineering plus 96 UOC for the Bachelor of Engineering Science. Because of the overlap of at least 24 units of credit of engineering courses in both cores, the total units of credit required for completion is 240 UOC, rather than 264 UOC.

Standard entry requirements

  • Assumed Knowledge: HSC Mathematics Extension 1, Physics
  • Recommended studies: HSC Mathematics Extension 2, Chemistry, Engineering Studies are recommended but not required.

Recognition

The Engineers Australia recognises the degree of BE in any of the 5 undergraduate streams as meeting the examination requirements for admission to graduate and corporate membership. Similarly, substantial or complete recognition is accorded to the BE degree programs by overseas engineering institutions. Graduates in Ceramic Engineering are also eligible for membership of the Institute of Ceramics of Great Britain, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers USA.
