Chemical engineers design, create and optimise the systems and equipment used in chemical, industrial, biological and environmental processes. They produce a range of materials, from fuels and fertilisers to processed foods, beer and wine, polymers and pharmaceuticals; they also design and operate large-scale chemical process equipment and factories and play an important role in making industries safer, more efficient and cleaner.

Structure

Students must complete 60 days of Industrial Training and a total of 192 Units of Credit.

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • Assumed Knowledge: Mathematics Extension 1, Physics and Chemistry.

Engineers Australia and the Institution of Chemical Engineers.

Further information

Chemical engineers can pursue careers in water treatment and recycling, environmental management, manufacturing, food processing, the energy and petrochemical industries, and research, from molecular level up to full heavy-industry scale.
